Join us as we explore the world of Feng Shui with Judith Wendell. Discover her inspiring journey to becoming a consultant, along with the transformative power of creating a space that reflects your inner peace and fuels your aspirations.
When did you first know that Feng Shui was your calling and how did it come about?
My environment for as long as I could remember has always been important to me – both aesthetically and emotionally. After a spiritual journey to Bali and Borneo in 1994, I was literally lead through a series of encounters to the first 3 year professional Feng Shui training program in New York. Prior to being a Feng Shui consultant, I was a jeweler, creating tiny environments. I have brought a lifelong interest interior design, meditation and architecture to my work – recognizing that beauty and order are integral to well-being. I have been practicing Feng Shui professionally for 25 years now – heard to believe.
What services do you offer?
I offer Feng Shui assessments for residential and commercial environments, Integrative Interior Design and Space Clearing. Additionally I offer classes in Feng Shui and Space Clearing and personal ritual. Please refer to my website www.sacredcurrents.com for information on all of these in additional to articles written about my work.
Could you tell us more about how Feng Shui works?
Modern science tells us that everything seen and unseen, animate and inanimate is interconnected on a molecular level. In reality, there is no ‘inner’ and ‘outer’. The environment affects the condition of your body. For those not familiar with Feng shui principles, I employ the following systems of feng shui:
- Form School – the original system of feng shui which focuses on the physical forms in the outer and inner environment and how they influence the project.
- Flying Star – an aspect of Compass School feng shui, which concerns itself with time and directionality. This is represented by the ‘stars’ or numbers in each ‘gua’ or sector.
- BTB Feng Shui – which focuses on how chi or energy enters and moves through space and makes use of transcendental adjustments to correct or enhance areas that cannot be addressed physically.
The Five Elements – Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal – referred to as the ‘Agents of Change’, play an important part in the design development phase. These elemental forces take physical form in the shapes, colors, patterns and physical materials used in design and are employed in all systems of feng shui. Each one of the areas on the accompanying feng shui chart has a symbol for 2 or 3 elements which will be employed when design details are being decided. A key to the elements is at the bottom of this assessment.
What exactly is Space Clearing?
Every environment is like a sponge, so if the people who occupied your home before you were happy and moved to a bigger home, you inherit their good ‘chi’ or life energy. But if the person whose office you take over was fired, it doesn’t bode well for your success. Clearing of an environment or site preserves the good and allow the less auspicious energies to take their leave.
These ancient rituals have been practiced in every culture to honor the land and spirits, as well as to make a place sacred. Space Clearing sessions can be conduced independently or in conjunction with a Feng Shui Consultation. The natural order of things is to bless or consecrate a space once it is cleared. In truth it is a part of the clearing process. All religious, cultural and secular practices (or lack thereof) of the client are always respected. Any practice or tradition can be incorporated into the blessing ritual to further personalize it.
The rituals I perform include:
- Flower offerings, smoke, sounds, dowsing and traditional rice blessings to clear and consecrate an environment.
- Rituals to complete relationships, whether they are with people or the places we are leaving behind.
- Marking a passage in one’s life, such as a death, special birthday, achievement.
What can Feng Shui affect someone’s life?
Feng Shui can be beneficial to an individual if:
- your life feels ‘stuck’
- you have financial problems
- you’ve recently moved
- you’re experiencing health issues
- there’s been family discord
- you’re in a life transition, such as marriage, divorce, a death or a new job
- you wish to re-energized your life with a fresh start.
Feng Shui can improve a business by helping to:
- Attract new customers/business opportunities
- Enhance the company’s reputation & profile
- Increase productivity
- Relieve employee stress and improve relations
- Get a fresh start by eliminating negative energy in the environment with space clearing rituals
- Ensure that your business cards, website and other print materials reflect your intention
What do you love most about your profession?
I am equally at home advising on large business premises or small studio apartments – working comfortably virtually, from photos and floor plans or on-site.
I enjoy meeting and working with people from different cultures and backgrounds. With a deep respect for everyone’s confidentiality, I encourage my clients to be as open and honest as they would like in order to support them fully.
