This has been the the hottest summer
I can remember in New York City

I’ve just read that 24 percent of the population in the US are living in the areas expected to have dangerous levels of summer heat this week. This on top of the fact that we are living in a world with a number of combustible conflicts.

I have often written about the 5 Elements and how they can be used to enhance our environment and influence our well being. The Fire element is associated with summer and the southern direction. In my apartment the southern direction is the bathroom. All water and stone (earth) the two elements that either douse or control Fire. So, adding a scented candle, a fiery photograph, like the one above taken from my roof, or a transcendental adjustment, like a red triangle hidden behind the door of the medicine cabinet, would all be effective to bring the benefits of Fire into my southern sector with positive intention.

Fire Element as you may know

  • Represents enlightenment or spirituality.
  • Fire in balance can indicate that you are highly regarded and respected.
  • In a business, enhancing Fire increases word of mouth recommendations.
  • If there is too much Fire perhaps there may be scandal or lawsuits and if there’s too little Fire and you may not be noticed at all.

Too much Fire element in ourselves can burn us up with anger or be destructive to others. In our environments we don’t want to douse the Fire element by adding Water element. However, if it is ‘too hot’, we can start by ‘controlling’ or limiting it with the use of the Earth element. This may take the form using more beige colors, natural fibers, pottery or wood furnishings.

The biggest error I find in understand the elements is confusing ‘dead’ wood (flooring and furniture) with the Wood element. The Wood element is associated with living growing things, and it has verticality.  This contrasts with the Earth element, which is still and associated with horizontal surfaces or square shapes.

Relief

If someone is repressed, or conversely angry and explosive, or lacks clarity, I suggest the following Fire adjustment for their personal chi. Although I’ve offered this before I think we could all benefit from this chi adjustment. Give it a try!

  • Take a deep breath, then with pursed lips send the breath out in 8 small puffs and allow the 9th to be long.
  • Repeat this again visualizing clear light entering the top of your head and filling your body as you inhale.
  • When you exhale see black smoke coming out the top of your head, especially during the 9th long breath.
  • Repeat this again 8 more times for a total of 9 rounds.
  • Do this series, 3 times during the day or whenever you feel anger and/or anxiety rising. Likewise, if you are ‘stuffing’ your feelings down.

For this adjustment to be the most powerful it should be done consistently for 27 days.
