Home
Although we might not always think of our home as a sanctuary during the usual busyness of life, we now need our environments to serve us like never before.
Whether you are fortunate enough to have a first or second home in the country, a spacious apartment in the city or a tiny studio, your home needs to be your personal sanctuary. So look around and see what you can do to beautify your home and make it more comfortable right now. Do you have some things to put away or clean up? Is it possible to bring the season indoors with some fresh flowers or a new plant? I’ve suggested previous how important it is to open a window and circulate fresh air. Perhaps play some soothing music in the background of your day – Tibetan bells or chanting. Light an incense or spray some essential oil to fill your home with healing fragrance. Working with the senses is the most direct way to create relaxation, which is the key to creating a sanctuary, a haven, refuge, or retreat in your home…even for a short while.
Feng Shui
Feng shui is not a one size fits all of generic principles, so I don’t tend to suggest ‘tips’. Rather when a client calls, I want to know why they think a consultation will benefit them? What are their needs, goals and life situation? Are they moving, getting married, wanting a new job, have health or financial concerns, looking for a special relationship, buying furniture or on a budget? Some people simply want to upgrade the chi or life force of their home. Only when I have a full understanding of who my client is – which includes doing their Chinese astrology, numerology (9 Star Ki) and Ming Gua (auspicious directions) – do I start to analyze their home.
I always begin with a visual assessment of a home. So much can be seen and felt by walking through the space. When I do a space clearing my ‘lens’ becomes even more focused and I may notice or sense things my client is not even aware of. Then I apply the 2 forms of feng shui I practice to their floor plan. These are Flying Star feng shui based on compass directions and the age of the home, and BTB (Black Sect Tibetan Buddhist) feng shui, which employs transcendental adjustments. These adjustments are quite powerful and can accomplish things that are beyond the physical realm.
When working with my clients, my process is transparent and thus I teach as I go, so that every aspect of the work makes sense and is something they are willing to do. Too many times I have heard that clients have been told by someone else to do something they didn’t like or feel comfortable with, and they didn’t do it. There are always 2 or 3 solutions to every need, and finding what makes sense visually, financially and logistically to my client is of utmost importance to the success of the consultation.
Zoomlandia
So where does Zoomlandia come in (or for that matter Skype, FaceTime or What’sApp)? Well over the 20+ years I’ve been practicing feng shui I have done a number of virtual consultations – a condo in Hawaii, a studio in NYC, a home in CA, a clearing for a tragic incident in New Orleans, etc. Each time I questioned whether the client would get the same value that they would have if I was on site? Would I be able to offer all I could? Of course the experience is different than being on-site, but the outcome each and every time has been positive and effective, which is the most important thing for me.
Judith
Recently I’ve attended a meditation class, 3 doctors appointments, a pilates session, a friend’s birthday party, a family dinner, a business meeting, a professional presentation, and a seminar on Zoom. Everyone of those varied encounters have been effective and satisfying. Whether through necessity or convenience I think we will continue to expand this way of interacting going forward. Nothing will ever replace looking directly into someone’s eyes, sharing a meal, a good hug or laugh in person, but I see our connections expanding with this medium, not contracting. Now if I could only get a virtual haircut! (p.s. pic was taken before lock down ;=)
I hope to resume on-site consultations at the end of May but for now and in the future, I will be working virtually too. If you think Feng Shui can enhance your life, bringing it into harmony and balance with your surroundings, let’s find out what makes sense for you. We’ll discuss your priorities and what I can offer. Click here to set up a call with no obligation other then to connect.
Hope to see you see you virtually or better yet in person one day soon!
Please stay very safe + healthy through this next period of transition!
