Fire & Feng Shui
Your inner and Outer Balance
Last month I wrote about the alignment of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Feng Shui and the 5 Elements. Depending where you are in the world, the weather may be different than similar times in past years. In New York City recently, the weather has been unseasonably cold one day and 90 degrees the next. As we know our planet is out of balance on many levels.
We also know that Feng Shui works on the premise that our ‘outer world’ influences our wellbeing, careers and relationships. In addition, more of us are recognizing that the border of our skin, the walls of our home, the lines between states and the oceans between continents, no longer separate us. We are all interconnected and like it or not, we’re ’in it’ together. So what can we do for ourselves this season to bring more balance to our inner and outer world?
Let’s start with the Summer Solstice on June 21st. The summer season is associate with the Fire element as we’re obviously closest to the sun at this time.
Some of the terms that relate to Fire in feng shui parlance are:
Quality: Clarity, inspiration, visibility…brightness
Direction: South
Characteristics: Light, spreading, up and outward
Material things: Lamps, fire, stove, candle, awards
Shape: Pointy, triangular
Color: Red
The Fire sector in your home or office (depending on the form of Feng Shui you are using) is either in the back midsection of a room or the South on the compass. A small amount of Fire element goes a long way, so adding a candle, a pointy sculpture, a red piece of art will enhance this area. In your office display awards, diplomas and press!
As I practice Restorative Feng Shui (c), as I call it, I always look for personal chi adjustments to offer a client beyond what I recommend for their environment.
Individually:
- Fire represents enlightenment or spirituality.
- Fire in balance can indicates that you are highly regarded and respected.
- In a business, word of mouth recommendations abound.
- If there is too much Fire perhaps there there is scandal, lawsuits. Too little and you are not noticed at all.
- So we may need to add or subtract Fire element as needed from an environment.
If someone is repressed, or conversely they are angry or explosive, I suggest the following Fire adjustment for their chi:
- Take a deep breath, then with pursed lips send the breath out in 8 small puffs and allow the 9th to be long.
- Repeat this again visualizing clear light entering the top of your head and filling your body as you inhale.
- When you exhale see black smoke coming out the top of your head, especially during the 9th long breath.
- Repeat this again 8 more times for a total of 9 rounds.
- Do this series, 3 times during the day or whenever you feel anger and/or anxiety rising…likewise if you are ‘stuffing’ your feelings down.
- For this adjustment to be the most powerful it should be done consistently for 27 days (3 rounds a day, a series of 9 inhales during each round).
Let’s also remember that Fire is a purifying element. This time of year is an excellent time for a space clearing/cleansing ritual. I am happy to discuss the particulars and fees involved and you can read some more information here.
May this Fire Season support your balanced passion, respected recognition, and enlightened happiness.
With continued prayers for the Ukraine and our world.
