Northeast Winter
The Northeast of the US has experienced a wicked winter of arctic temperatures and some serious snow. Just when the sidewalks of New York were snow free, wham we get hit with a blizzard of epic proportions. So I am hoping the English proverb describing March as “In like a lion, out like a lamb”, holds true.
A couple of weekends ago the heat in my entire building was out for about 30 hours. That day it was -14 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill. So I spent a lot of time curled in my bed. I am fortunate to have a pad that not only warms up the bed, but contains crystals and is designed to eliminate EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) which can be detrimental to our health. All this got me thinking about the Feng Shui of the bedroom.
Newsletters
I have been writing these newsletters for 26 years (you can check them out here). Know I have must have written about Feng Shui in the bedroom more then once before. We are all familiar with such things as don’t have books, shoes, taxes, gym equipment, guns (I’ve seen it all) under your bed. Or, have 2 nightstands and lamps, for a romantic relationship. Let’s look at a few less talked about bedroom recommendations for good Feng Shui, good sleep and good relationships.
Bedrooms
- Bedrooms should be as conducive as possible to having a restful sleep. While a balance of yin and yang is important, bedroom should lean to being more yin, as they are meant for more rest, recuperation and relaxation.
- You can check the amount of EMFs your electronics give off with a guass meter. Hopefully they are all in the safe zone. However, if you keep the electronics in your bedroom situate 3’ or more away from your bed their effects are greatly diminished. This includes clock radios, baby monitors, air purifiers, space heaters etc
- Keep your bedroom exclusively for sleep and sex. Not for eating, watching TV, working on your laptop, etc
- It is best if your bed is not inline with the door of the bedroom. Additionally, having the crown of your head pointed to one of the 4 good directions based on your Ming Gua is equally as important. You can google how to calculate your Ming Gua online. It is something I always included in my Feng Shui assessments
- Crack a window. Even an opening of just ¼ -½ an inch will create a natural flow of air and help clean the environment. Of course, when windows and doors can be thrown open on a nice day (yes, almost spring, is coming) even in the city, it is refreshing.
- If you live in a house avoid sleeping over a garage. Sleeping over an ’empty’ space represents having a lack of solid foundation in the life.
- Additionally sleeping over a kitchen is considered inauspicious due to the presence of fire, which is detrimental to health.
- Having the head of your bed on the other side of a wall where there is a toilet can also have health consequences.
Amoda Maa
In the 26 years that I have been writing my newsletters there have only been 2 or 3 occasions that I have introduced someone that I hold in the highest esteem.
Amoda Maa, is one of my core spiritual teachers. She offers a profound invitation to all who yearn for self-realization — not as a distant goal, but as a living truth revealed in the heart of everyday life.
Her teaching, rooted in nondual awareness, expresses a timeless truth free from dogma or ideology. With clarity and tenderness, Amoda speaks a contemporary language that resonates across cultures, traditions, and beliefs.
- Amoda will be in NYC on March 29th, 2026 and I invite you to join us for a beautiful afternoon if you are in the vicinity. If not, but this interest you, Amoda can be found on YouTube and offers many online programs which you find on her site.
In the U.S., Daylight Saving Time will begin and clocks will officially
spring forward at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026.
May our new season herald in a time of light,
warmth and well being for all.
